Have you guys heard of this book? i first noticed it a few months back on pinterest. I was intrigued, and when I got an amazon gift card at the end of the year I used it to buy this and a few other character building read alouds.
I was blown away by this book. It is just lovely, and I know it will really speak to my kids. Here is the product description from Amazon.
Have you ever seen a bully in action and done nothing about it? The kids at Pete's new school get involved, instead of being bystanders. When Pete begins to behave badly, his classmates teach him about "The Promise". Will Pete decide to shed his bullying habits and make "The Promise"?
In my classroom I plan on going over the promise, reading it together and repeating it several times though out the first week.
I made up these posters (I'm not sure which one I like best yet) I am going to hang it in the room and have all the kids sign it.
This is the promise that the kids in the book make with each other and their teacher.

Crisscross Applesauce in First Grade
The characters in the book are a little older, and there's some new vocabulary like bystander etc. But I think it would still work it's never to early to introduce them to the message in the book. I'm doing it with my second graders.
DeleteHmm I'm not sure either lol. I still think the handwriting practice would be good, writing sentences instead of a name perhaps. Maybe timed facts practice, adding and multiplying. Writing prompt would be good.
