4 new things

Ms. M is having a linky party sharing 4 new things you are doing this year.

1. The Daily 5! I am so excited to implement this system. I have never been happy with how I have run my reading block. Reading the first chapter of the daily 5 book was like they were speaking to me. I definitely felt like I was running around putting out fires and "managing" the students more than I was teaching them.

I want to make something like this for check in on the smart board. I'm still thinking it through.

2. Departmentalizing for social studies and science. My partner teacher and I have decided to teach each others classes next year for these subjects. I am doing science and I couldn't be more excited. I feel like this will allow us to specialize more and really make both subjects the best they can be.

3. Use class Dojo. I blogged about it here. I think it is really going to be a useful classroom management tool. I used it for two weeks at the end of the year last year, and it was amazing. The kids really loved it, and it was so simple.

4. Whole brain teaching. I'm not ready to dive in completely yet. But I am definitely on board using the class rules and the accompanying hand motions to start out and maybe implementing other new techniques as the year progresses.

I changed the rules from the traditional WBT ones a bit. Here are my posters.

So What are you all excited about doing this year? Link up and share!

*Edit*

After checking out a few of the links on the party I've noticed people talking about those cute organizational binders with the themes. Any one do those and want to tell me what you like about them or point me in the direction of where I can learn more?

  1. Hey Cassandra,
Here are some links that I refer to regarding organizational binders. I bought my from Jodi's TpT store. Here's the link to her blog: http://fun-in-first.blogspot.com/search/label/classroom%20management
I have also found good info on Christie's blog: http://flipflopteacher.blogspot.com/search/label/Binder
Hope those help. It's my first year doing it, but I'm super excited. Also, if you google MOOSE binder you should be able to find more info!

  6. I'm going to use Class Dojo too, but I left it off my list. I've been playing with it and think the students are going to like it as much as me.

  7. Hi!

I was just going to let you know that I have been incorporating whole brain teaching a little at a time for the past two years. I love using it! It really helps with making sure that you are incorporating all of the modalities of learning and also helps keep all of your kids engaged! Good luck!

I have nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award! Head over to my page to check it out:

  8. I really like your version of the WBT teaching rules. Maybe I will use them next year! I used just the rules and hand motions this year and my class responded to it pretty well and would start reciting them when they saw I was getting frustrated. :)

  10. Hi, found you through a link via Made It Monday and then just kept reading. I have to see what this Dojo is about, thanks for the information.
This might be a bit late but your question about binders, have you seen Charity Preston's binders? I'm totally in love with them. If you haven't then you can find them on http://www.theorganizedclassroomblog.com
