First off is Class/Yes
I looked in to whole brain teaching a lot this summer, but with everything else I was implementing this year, I wasn't quite ready to dive in just yet. I did however start using class/yes. IT IS AWESOME. They are really responding well to it, and usually after I do it once I have 23 sets of eyes looking at me, waiting for instructions. LOVE.
Next up is writers workshop. I just started it yesterday but I can tell we are already going to love it.
On Thursday I read
It's explains the whole process of how a book get published. From where writers get their ideas, to how the books get on the shelves. Along the way I related all the steps to what they will be doing in writer's workshop this year. By the end of the book I had a few students who were begging me to start writing.
Today I formally introduced writers workshop using the Lucy Calkins Model.
After checking out this website and seeing this pin
I decided to use binders. So far they are working great. The kids write all of the rough drafts in the notebook and when they are ready to publish they rip them out and put the in the folders.
Finally, we did sharing today. Here's how I decided to structure it. We have 10 extra minutes for writing than we did last year. So this year for those 10 extra minutes we are going to do a partner share. They choose a partner, go into a quiet space around the room and read what they worked on that day for writing. Today I let them pick their own partners and they did fabulously. So I might let them do that occasionally.
On Fridays we will do a whole class share and their will be spots to sign up for.
I snapped some pictures of the kids when they were sharing. They were so cute.
My sale ends tonight! So check it out!
I love Class/Yes! It's the best! I'm so glad your off to such a great start.
