Hooray for hatching day!

We've been incubating chicken eggs in the second grade at my school, and today our first chick hatched! Tomorrow is day 21 and the rest of the babies should make their appearance.

Still inside the incubator. We are going to take them out and put them in the brooder (the chicks home which is a heated rabbit cage.)

The kids are extremely excited. I am extremely excited.

We did this activity today to learn some terminology associated with chicks. One card has a vocab term, and one has a definition. The kids have to find their partner. Then they copy the word, definition, and draw a picture in their science journals. We then come back and share out what we learned. You could do this activity when learning any new terminology really.

If you plan on hatching chicks or you just study life cycles this activity is up on google docs for free!

  1. I'm so jealous! We aren't allowed to have chicks in our school. I can't wait to see more pictures! :)
