It was really bittersweet, because I've been with these students for three years. As their aide in first grade, then their teacher in second and third. At our school after third grade the kids move onto the middle school campus, so I won't even see their smiley faces around next year. Needless to say there were a few tears. (from me, the kids, the parents.)
We had one last class meeting and the kids went around and shared their favorite memories from their time at the primary school. I was not prepared for their answers. They were so thoughtful and sweet.
One kid told a story about how lots of times in writer's workshop he thought he couldn't do something because it seemed to hard and he would try to give up. I wouldn't let him, and I would help him to finish and he would feel proud of himself.
So after I said good bye, I sat down to open my class gift. Each kid designed a scrapbook page about the things I've taught them, and the tears start flowing again :-(
I've got two days of staff development next week, and then Bring on Summer!
Oh and I working on my first freebie for Tara's Monday Made it. I'm really excited about it!
